Environmental Policy Statement of TreeHugger Mums Ltd
TreeHugger Mums Ltd recognises it's responsibilities towards today's society,
beyond simply producing and selling goods. We aim to reduce the environmental
impact of our business operations, and that of our supply chain. Through our
pricing policy, we aim to make environmentally friendly parenting products more
accessible to our consumers, who we recognise are increasingly aware of
environmental issues.
TreeHugger Mums Ltd further commits to protecting the environment by
identifying, implementing and monitoring new ways in which to reduce our impact
upon the local and global environment.
Our business is carried out in a way that is intended to minimise our impact on
the environment, and we do this in the following ways:
Our Objectives
We use materials responsibly – our postal packaging is recycled, recyclable or
reusable, and we only use non recyclable plastic packaging where our suppliers
require it. We reuse or recycle as much of our suppliers’ packaging as possible.
Our use of printed materials for catalogues and communications is kept to a
minimum wherever possible. Where we do have to print materials, we use recycled
paper and prefer to use unbleached paper to reduce the use of bleaching agents.
Toner and ink cartridges from our printers are recycled according to
manufacturers’ recommendations.
We minimise our use of electricity by using low-power lighting and our office
procedures ensure that lights and electrical equipment is switched off when not
required, and configured to enter low-power modes during periods of inactivity
where they can not be switched off. Our electricity is supplied on a ‘green
energy’ tariff, using renewable resources, from Ecotricity. You can read more
here.
Shipments from overseas are kept to a minimum through our purchasing procedures,
and we only purchase products from overseas suppliers where we believe that
there is not a suitable UK alternative. We aim to support United Kingdom-based
suppliers where possible, and prefer our suppliers to use UK staff rather than
outsourcing overseas.
Implementation and Monitoring of Objectives
We measure the success of our policy by setting the following measurable
objectives – these are monitored by the Directors and included on the agenda on
monthly review meetings.
Extent of recycled materials used for stationery and computer consumables.
Extent of installation of low-energy lighting within the office.
Extent of recycling of toner cartridges and ink
Use of energy suppliers offering “green energy” derived from renewable sources
Selection of suppliers where environmental management performance has been
considered in the purchasing criteria
In addition an up-to-date environmental management policy is published on our
public web site.
